Critical minerals, including lithium, cobalt, rare earth elements, and others essential to clean energy technologies, defence systems, and digital infrastructure, sit at the intersection of science, economics, politics, and Indigenous rights. Momentum for decarbonisation and intensifying geostrategic rivalry are driving up demand for these minerals. New demand means more mining, and this gives rise to new challenges. 

No single discipline or college holds the answers to these challenges.

The ANU Critical Minerals Network connects researchers, educators, and practitioners from across the university to address these challenge collectively. By connecting expertise in geoscience, physics, law, economics, political science, international relations, Indigenous studies, and environmental science, the Network creates a collaborative space where disciplinary boundaries give way to shared purpose.

Through joint research projects, interdisciplinary event, and engagement with government, industry, and community partners, the Network showcases the capacity of ANU to shape Australia's and the Indo-Pacific region's critical minerals future.
